My Space Youth Center

The My Space Youth Center located in Martin, SD officially opened May 27, 2016.  The center provides kids in the Martin area a safe place to come, hang out with friends, receive tutoring and help with their homework,  and even find something to eat  The project was developed by Craig Dillon, LaCreek Tribal Council Representative and the CDC and is under the direction of Kimmie Claussen who also is the shelter director and the CDC director.   She asked kids in the community what they wanted most in the center and computers, a TV and Wii games were tops on their list.  Their wishes were granted when funding came from the Dietel Foundation which made possible the purchase of 6 computers, a TV and the Wii game.  They recently received a new cook stove from some generous donors and the kids are busy baking cookies and learning other cooking skills.  They will be setting up a library soon so books are needed and once crafting programs begin they will need supplies to get them started.  You can read more about the youth center in this blog post.

We will be working on some specific projects for the center in the upcoming year, if you wish to help before then general needs are listed below.
